Hello! I normally wait for my monthly newsletter to share life updates but I just couldn’t wait! In the last two years, I’ve graduated college, moved to Downtown Detroit and began working in corporate marketing. I started this blog shortly thereafter stemming from my love for writing and my need for a creative outlet. When the COVID-19 pandemic started, like many, it has changed my life greatly. I’ve been able to work from home full time and adopted my cat, Harlan, to join me in my tiny studio.
With that being said, The Sierra Guide have been all over the place. My goal since the start was to keep it moving and write what felt authentic to me. Unpopular to what most people say, taking breaks saved me and my blog. I gained clarity and more motivation to keep going. I realized food writing wasn’t my thing, gained a love for short-form writing, and during my longest break, learned that I wanted to design coffee mugs and open The Sierra Guide Shop. I let myself grow and learn and now I absolutly love where The Sierra Guide is going.
Learning to give myself grace has been a clear theme in my life lately. The more grace I give myself, the more has come my way. One being, getting a new job in advertising! I’m so excited for this change and can’t wait to learn more. I also made the decision to leave Downtown Detroit once my lease ends. I’ve loved exploring Detroit, especially the food scene but while quarantining in Ann Arbor last spring, I fell in love with the city. I am obsessed with my new place and can’t wait to call it home!
I already feel such a positive energy shift within me and can’t wait to put that energy into my new job and the goals I have for The Sierra Guide. I am feeling more inspired every day to write and design more for my shop too.
The Sierra Guide starts and ends with self-love. My goal is to spread love and light to all interested in the connection between mental health and spirituality. If that’s you, then hold on because much more will be coming from me this year! And if you are still here reading this, thank you!! Thank you so, so much!
Looking forward to the future,
Summer & Harlan
