The Guide to Surviving Your First 9-5 Job. Working a 9-5 job is an overwhelming change when you first begin. It feels like you have no time so you end up going home and binging Netflix. This habit can easily lead you to spiral out of control. Here are some helpful tips to keep you happy!
1.) Workout
I’m not a morning gym gal so I have to make sure I schedule workouts into my schedule during the week. How do I do it? I don’t self-sabotage. I lay out my workout clothes the night before. I eat a big healthy lunch that day and maybe have an afternoon snack. I don’t take pre-workout but I’ll get a coffee before I leave workout to give me some extra energy. I make the preparation super easy so when I’m tired af, it’s not as bad!
2.) Don’t forget about your friends!
I don’t have roommates so this is especially important for me! I always try to have dinner plans or go see a friend/family member if I can throughout the week. This is so important for people who are transitioning from college because you are so used to being around tons of people for four years straight.
3.) Have dinner ready!
I love cooking but sometimes I’m too tired and want something quick. Meal prepping is great but can get old. I always make sure to have a couple of options like healthy frozen pizza, frozen veggie burgers, or I buy premade meals specifically for weeks I’m busy. The happy medium for me is planning out my meals at the beginning of the week when I go grocery shopping and then when I get home I don’t have to think about it.
4.) Clean!
I’m kind of a hypocrite about this one but I really try to devote one night a week to clean my apartment and do laundry. It will make you feel productive and calm knowing you have a clean house/apartment.
5.) Get a hobby!
Hobbies are the homework of adulthood. It keeps your mind busy and it’s a great way to learn something new! Join a volleyball league in the summer, learn how to knit, or practice cooking! Volunteering is also a great way to get out of the house once a week after work. Anytime I get remotely bored I just think about things I wish I had time to do in college but never had time to do.
6.) Explore
Go check out the city you live in! Walk around your neighborhood, check out the new art fair downtown, visit that museum a couple of towns over about french history. Who knows what you’ll find? It gets you out of the house and off the couch.
7.) Self-Care
Lucky number #7. Take time for yourself. Little positive changes in the everyday make up the bigger changes in life. Light a candle and meditate. Eat some mac and cheese and watch the real housewives of Atlanta. You should do something that makes you happy every day.
