Dealing with your mental health post grad can be confusing. Graduating from college is an amazing accomplishment but many things change post grad. The hard work has finally paid off and now life is great!! Right? No, we sadly we were wrong. Where are all my friends? What is my purpose anymore? Why did I chose THAT major?
Dealing with Mental Health Post Grad is important to focus on and I’ve listed some tips on how to get through that period.
Where are my friends?
Visit friends, call them, text them! Have a girls weekend! Do things you did at college! Maybe not like frat parties but perhaps a fun brunch? It’s hard to not see them everyday but planning out weekends to hangout in advance helps. Don’t isolate yourself. New work friends are great too but make sure you reach out to college friends to make you feel at home again.
Do I really have to leave my couch?
Go workout! Get those endorphins going! Stop emotional eating and get off your butt. I joined a yoga studio that didn’t accept refunds. It was great for me because I was forced to go if I signed up for a class and it also had women my age in most classes.
Family first!
Lean on family. Yeah, remember them! Embrace the time you get with them now! If you’re living at home (honestly jealous you are saving so much money) make sure you know you stick to your boundaries with them so you don’t get overwhelmed fast.
Explore!
Get involved in the new city you’re in! If you’re back home go join a yoga studio or something a town over to get out of the house and be with young people. I live in Detroit which has Wayne State University so I found myself going to the campus a lot for food or bars because it made me feel like I was back at school again.
Get a hobby!
If you have found a job, find a hobby! We don’t have homework anymore (THANK THE LORD!) which means we have a lot more free time. Find healthy things to fill your free time. A great thing I started to do in my free time was this blog!
Self-Care
Take care of yourself and be easy on yourself. It’s hard a transition from college to the real world. Give yourself a break but don’t let yourself go. This slump shall to pass.
