How To Make The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies – Everyone loves Chocolate Chip Cookies and well, why wouldn’t you? The chocolate melts right in your mouth and they are perfect when you have a sweet tooth. My family’s Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe is by far the best.
I know every one says that about their family recipe but if you follow the exact steps I promise you won’t be disappointed. These cookies are so addicting and last for awhile in your freezer or fridge.
Ingredients:
- Shortening
- Sugar
- Brown Sugar
- Vanilla
- Eggs
- Baking Soda
- Salt
- Flour
- Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
The first thing you need to do is preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Afterward grease 2-3 baking sheets. It’s always best to have those prepared before you begin baking.
In a large mixing bowl, mix together the shortening, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and eggs. For this recipe it’s best to mix together the wet ingredients first before moving on to the other ingredients. I’ve grown up using shortening for this recipe but I have made it with butter before and they are just as good. You will need to melt the butter down completely. This recipe calls for 1 1/2 cup of shortening so that comes out to about a stick and half of butter. Salted or unsalted doesn’t matter. I would probably stick to unsalted.
Next, slowly add in the flour. I recommend doing one cup at a time. Once that’s done add the baking soda, salt, and chocolate chips. I use Meijer Semi-Sweet Chocolate Baking Chips but if you don’t have a Meijer near you, try to find Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips for this recipe.
Next, you’ll want to taste the batter and be like “Wow, this batter is amazing.”
Because trust me, the batter is evening out of this world.
Moving on, then scoop the batter on to the baking sheets you already greased into bite size pieces. I recommend buying one of those cookie scoopers. They are so helpful!

Bake the cookies for EXACTLY 4 minutes. I know I’m shouting but seriously you don’t want to over or under do it. Once they reach 4 minutes, move the baking sheets to another oven rack. So, if you have two baking sheets cooking just swap them. This might sound weird but we’ve always done it this way and it makes them bake perfectly.
Then let them cook for 4 more minutes. They might not seem done once the timer is up and that’s okay. If you feel like they are for sure uncooked, only bake them for one more minute.
Once you take them out of the oven, let them cool for 10-15 minutes. This will allow them to harden perfectly and they will begin to look like normal cookies.
Finally, they are done. I hope you enjoy these wonderful cookies. They are so yummy, I’m obsessed. If you try them and like them, be sure to tag me on social media so I can see your creation!
Enjoy!!
