Restaurant Guide: Rocco’s Italian Deli. This place is something you can’t miss when you come to Detroit. Tucked in the Cass Corridor neighborhood, the deli is everything you want for a sandwich shop in 2020.
Rocco’s offers deli sandwiches, chips, salads, soups, cannolis, cured meats, cheeses, breads, and then a magical wall of italian packaged food. Yes, very magical.
Just when you can’t get enough they have drinks. They have coffee, cocktails, specialty wines, draft and bottled beers. They even have bar seats which are lovely for date nights or after work cocktails.
The shop itself is beautiful and well designed. There is great seating indoor and outdoor and it’s well lit. I’m not going to lie, it’s an Instagram girl’s dream.
The food however is some of the freshest italian food I’ve ever had. They use fresh ingredients and make almost all of their ingredients in-house. I like coming here for sandwiches because the portions are big and they are all served on rustic italian bread from Michigan Bread. The bread is to die for. It’s so thick which if you’re someone like me you think, will it cause the sandwich to be dry?!? No, not at all. On my favorite sandwich, “The Rocco,” they add Garlic-Lemon Aioli and it’s seriously addicting. They also make their own sweet red pepper relish and that with the aioli and the bread, it’s too good!
Check out my other restaurant reviews!
The overall sandwich contains Hot Soppressata, Mortadella, Fontina, Romaine, Spicy Red Pepper Relish, and the famous Garlic-Lemon Aioli. They don’t hold back on the meat so come hungry.
Another sandwich I like because it’s vegetarian is the “Someone’s Been in the Garden Again.” Great names for the sandwiches by the way. This vegetarian sandwich includes Marinated and Grilled Eggplant, Zucchini, Bell Pepper, Onion, Yellow Summer Squash, Sharp Provolone, and Pesto Aioli. It can be kind of a messy sandwich to eat so maybe avoid on a first date or don’t and get comfortable quickly.
Restaurant Guide: Rocco’s Italian Deli
Rocco’s Italian Deli is an experience in my opinion. I love the atmosphere. Sitting at the bar top and ordering the Rosé or Italian Beer (both great!!) with your sandwich then ending the evening sharing a cannoli with a friend is my idea of a perfect night. Afterwards, you can buy fresh deli meat and then finally, head over to the magical wall to stock up on your favorite italian ingredients.
If you’re ever in Detroit and want a great sandwich, stop by Rocco’s (they have great parking too!)
